Rhode Island Firearm Purchase Applications & Waiting Period
Rhode Island law generally requires a purchase application and a seven-day waiting period for firearm transfers. Pistols and revolvers are governed by R.I. Gen. Laws § 11-47-35, while rifles and shotguns are governed by R.I. Gen. Laws § 11-47-35.2. The waiting period is calculated from 12:00 noon on the day following the date of application. Certain statutory exemptions may apply.
